The bidding process

Since 2015, Bodø and Nordland have prepared our bid for ECOC status in 2024.

When the European Parliament in 2017 decided to include EFTA/EEA countries in calls for applications for the ECOC, our process was launched, and a steering group was constituted under Municipal Chief Executive of Bodø, Rolf Kåre Jensen.

Our pre-selection bid was submitted in October 2018.

In November 2018 Bodø was shortlisted, as one of three candidates in our category, for ECOC status in 2024.

In addition to Bodø, the cities of Banja Luka and Mostar of Bosnia and Herzegovina are shortlisted.

We are currently working on phase 2, our complete and final bid.
The selection of ECOCs for 2024 will be made late September 2019.

Bodø’s bid is titled ARCTICulation, a title developed from the terms arctic, art, culture and communication.

The pre-selection bid book answers 38 questions from the EU commission, within a 60-page limit.

The 38 questions are categorized in six chapters:

• Long term streategy
• Cultural and artistic content
• European dimension
• Outreach
• Management
• Capacity to deliver

Here is a short version of our bid.

In our final bid we are answering 45 questions from the EU commission.

Bodø has the potential to become the first European Capital of Culture north of the Arctic Circle.

Becoming European Capital of Culture has the potential to positively and collectively develop our city, region, and even our nation.
